About Me

My goal is to pursue a deep understanding of the physics of the acoustic guitar, whilst striving to master the craft of guitar building. Along the way, I aim to create instruments worthy of the most discerning musicians. I hope that, through a holistic understanding of the guitar and the application of engineering principles in designing and analysing the instrument, the acoustic guitar can be optimised beyond its current form.

Theunis studied guitar building through The Casimi School of Lutherie in Cape Town, South Africa and The Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair, in Michigan, USA, followed by an apprenticeship at Casimi Guitars. Before discovering woodworking, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in civil engineering from Stellenbosch University. He builds his guitars from his home in Cape Town, South Africa.
